Southern Railway is introducing a daily service between Chennai Central and Palani starting October 1.

A press release said the inaugural special train No. 06002 will leave Palani at 16:00 hours on October 1 and arrive in Chennai Central at 02.30 hours. The regular service of the train No.16001 Chennai Central – Palani daily express will commence on October 1, and that of train No. 16002 Palani – Chennai Central will commence on October 2.

Train No. 16001 Chennai Central – Palani daily express will leave Chennai Central at 21:00 hours and arrive in Palani at 8:00 hours the next day.

Train 16002 Palani – Chennai Central Express will leave Palani at 18:00 hours and arrive at Chennai Central at 04:50 hours the next day. The composition of the train will be 1 AC 2-tier, 1 AC 3-tier, 7 Sleeper Class, 6 General Second Class and 2 Luggage-cum-break van coaches.

The trains will stop at Arakonnam, Katpadi, Gudiyattam, Jolarpettai, Salem, Rasipuram, Namakkal, Karur, Dindigul, Akkaraipatti, Oddanchatram and Chatrappatti. Train no. 16002 will stop at Perambur too.

Salem-Namakkal-Karur Passenger Services Train Shortly

The new Salem-Namakkal-Karur broad gauge track is ready for use and it is just a matter of time when passenger services will be operated on the stretch, Salem Divisional Railway Manager Sujatha Jayaraj said on Wednesday.

After inspecting Karur junction, she said that the Commissioner for Rail Safety has certified track worthiness of the stretch and plans are under way to primarily operate the proposed Chennai Central-Palani Express, Nagercoil-Bengaluru Express and Chennai-Madurai Duranto Express besides indicating the possibility of introducing a Salem-Karur passenger service in the initial stages.

The DRM directed the officials to repair and renovate the damaged platform 1 roof at the junction.

She also ordered the officials to carry out repair work to the dilapidated compound walls in some sections of the railway area here.

Ms. Sujatha also informed that Perugamani station would be renovated and said that drinking water facilities, power availability and the like would be developed at all stations en route.

The DRM rewarded Mahadanapuram station with Rs. 5,000 for proper upkeep of record; Rs. 1,000 for the Perugamani Station Master; and another Rs. 500 for his assistant for exemplary work.

Thavamani Pandi, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Salem, accompanied the official during the inspection.
